How do I exit Excel? There is no Exit under the File tab.

    Alt F4 is for the whole application

    CTL F4 is for the current file only.

    That's version dependent. In newer versions, as I mentioned, Excel opens a separate copy of the application for each file. In that case, if you have multiple workbooks open, you have multiple applications open. So Alt+F4 = Ctrl+F4 in the later versions of Excel.

    Every time you open another workbook Excel places a different instance of the Toolbar and QAT on the screen as of 2013. Prior to that one menu displayed regardless of the number of workbooks that were open.

    Why Microsoft chose to use Alt+F4 and Ctrl+F4 identically remains a mystery. Why there is no Exit command on the File menu remains a mystery. In early versions of Excel if you held down the Shift key when you opened a menu, additional choices were displayed, for example, the File menu had a Close All option.

    Nevertheless, the QAT option is a fast and easy solution.
