VBA editor - blank screen with no items available (except large chinese characters)

Hello all,

This is how it looks when i start the vba editor in any office program:

The interface is unresponsive except the background reacts to mouseover by turning light blue - but no right click menus or anything useful.

I uninstalled and reinstalled office completely.

Has anyone got a clue?

Cheers

Jens

    Hi Jens LS:

Thank you for your feedback. In our test, this problem was not found.

Please check if there are any updates of Office. You can update your Office applications in the following ways: Open Excel -> File -> Account ->Update Options ->Update Now.

If your Office has been updated to the latest version, you can also try the following methods:

    1. Repairing Office from the Control Panel: Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> right-click on Office applications’ icon -> Change -> Online Repair.
    2. Opening Office apps in safe mode to check whether there is an add-in or extension that may be causing a problem on startup.

If the problem persists, please provide the following information to help us understand the problem more specifically:

    • Screenshot of the version information of the Office application you are using. (Open Word->File->Account)
    • What is the version of your operating system?

    Hope this will help you.

    Hello Tin,

    Thank you for your reply.

Here is the version information for office - as i said, i just reinstalled after complete removal with click to run from O365.

Before that, i tried office repair.

Also, starting in safe mode makes no difference.

    Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2110 Build 16.0.14527.20270) 64-biters

    OS is Win10 Pro, 10.0.19042 build 19042

    Cheers

    EDIT

    Hello again Tin,

it just ocurred to me that on the left side there is a row of dots - just like in a toolbar, and when i hover the cursor over it, there is the same cross arrows as in a toolbar.

    Image

So i thought it may be an inappropriately sized tolbar with the wrong character set also.

The above snippet was taken with the "Steps recorder", and the text info confirms what i was suspecting:

Trinn 2: Venstreklikk av bruker på 功能表列 (menylinje) i Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications - Bok1Program: Microsoft Excel, 16.0.14527.20276, Microsoft Corporation, EXCEL.EXE, EXCEL.EXEElementer i brukergrensesnitt: 功能表列, MsoCommandBar, MsoDockTop, MsoCommandBarDock, Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications - Bok1, wndclass_desked_gsk

The chinese text translates to "Function list"

I assume this is understandable, even if you may not read Norwegian.

However, i haven't found a way to remediate this...

    Cheers

    Jens

    Hi Jens LS:

Thank you for providing such specific information.

I'm sorry that my previous suggestions didn't help you.

I tried your version and still did not find the same problem. So please try the following two methods to see if it can help you:

    1. Try to perform a clean boot in Windows, and then run only the Office client in clean mode. This ensures that the error is not caused by other programs or services.
    2. Switch a computer user to see if the problem still occurs.

    Hope this will help you.

    Tin
