Excel shows extra loading window on alt+tab

Question

Today I ran into this new issue: Anytime I open Excel, this loading screen shows up in the alt+tab view and won’t go away. Anyone else encountering this or know how to fix it? Usually it would disappear once the workbook fully opened. It doesn’t appear to be a separate process, as attempting to kill it with Task Manager closes both windows. Microsoft 365 MSO Version 2111 64-bit on desktop, Windows 10.

I go through the post carefully, just like you said, the issue may happen if Excel don’t load completely, as for the issue, here are some suggestions:

1. Try perform Office online repair to check if the issue related to corrupted office client, you may check the link for more information: **** Repair an Office application - support.microsoft.com
2. To check if the issue related to any add-ins used in Excel, try start Office under safe mode and check the result. For more information: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC
3. To check if the issue related to any other programs running back ground, try performing clean boot on windows and check the result: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

I think I may have nailed down the culprit, but I’m not sure.  The day before this problem started, I was already dealing with the widespread issue where the status bar in Excel disappears for no apparent reason at all.  I googled some fixes, and one of the suggestions was to implement a little VBA script to force the status bar to reappear.  I had never done anything with VBA before, but I followed the instructions and ran the little script, and it worked (once).  But after restarting Excel, the status bar is now prone to disappearing again.

Also, I noticed that when opening Excel, the splash screen shows that it is opening “Funcres.xlam”, which I don’t recall seeing before this problem started.  So that probably also has to do with the VBA script that I had put into Excel the day before.  But I don’t know how to find it and get rid of it, or turn it off, or something.

Thanks for the updates, The Funcres.xlam looks like an Excel Add-ins in Excel, you may try to disable it from Developer tab>Excel Add-ins. Additionally, if you start Office under safe mode, no add-ins will started, you may check the link for more information: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC.

You may insert VBA code in Visual Basic editor, do you remember where you inserted it? you may try to find it from Developer tab>Visual Basic. If you find it, you may delete it and check the result.
