I am being asked to update this file. From what i read on it , it a security file, but it has a lot of issues. Don't need more complication in life.
Has it been fixed, the file updated itself or is it still a complication for many?

    I am using Office 2007
I tried the office 365, but it kept locking up when offline and it came with a Win8 tablet i bought awhile ago. I didn't care for it. And i don't use all the features that it provides anyway, so it a waste of money. When I went to see what MS Office you had now, it was rename MS 365, then on top of that its a monthly or yearly subscription, which I hate as well. There was MS office2019 student, but again, for what i used, a big price tag.
So the features I do use mainly Word and Excel, I never needed to upgrade to newer version, which again, waste of money. I rarely use Power Point, never used Access or Outlook
I would have stuck to even older versions but they kept forcing the upgrade notification.

When the update popped up, i checked to see what it was. There a lot of complaints in how it interferes with opening documents and excel and I am like "don't need that aggravation". So i asked if MS ever fixed those issue. And of course, since MS don't support it any longer, why am i getting an update.

In any case, power went out today, and as the PC rebooted, those updates installed. Now if it gives any issues I am looking at ways to uninstall it, if that needs arises.

You might want to take a look at the Office Online apps. They are dumbed down versions of the desktop apps, but are adequate for short and simple files. They are free with your free OneDrive space.

The default file format for files created in Word 2007 is *.docx. Therefore, I you are working with documents in that format the File Validation Add-in is not necessary as it does NOT do anything with that type of file. It's only purpose is in respect of files produced by earlier versions of Word that were in binary (*.doc) format.

I do things with both. Though usually with (*.doc) format about 80% of the time.
Most of the people i interact with use the Micrososft Word 97-2003 and many use open office programs such as LibreOffice programs

For any files you use alone, you should convert them to the new 2007 file formats.

    .

For people using OpenOffice / LibreOffice, those programs do support the new formats. Encourage them to use the new formats: https://fileinfo.com/software/libreoffice/libreoffice .

For people using 97-2003, they should have installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats long ago. It enables those old version to open and save in the new 2007 file formats.

MS no longer provides downloads since Office 2003 and earlier have long ago ended support. You will have to find an alternate source for this file. CNET is one file download site that appears to still have it. Here is another site that appears to be trustworthy:

We’ve received some questions from readers in the last few days showing that, even after a decade, there’s still misinformation about the ‘new’ Office document formats .docx .xlsx etc. We’ll explain these myths and how you can easily disprove them yourself.

After last week’s article, it’s clear some folks haven’t changed or still accept the older .doc .xls or .ppt files as email attachments.  That’s a risky thing to do, especially when there’s a common and better alternative.
