Excel Autofill not working

Hello, I am having trouble with the Autofill feature on the Excel Desktop App. I am a 365 subscriber.

Autofill does not work despite the checkbox being ticked. I have read lots of troubleshooting tips, changed the language settings on the app and system, tried different languages, right and left-clicking the handle but no luck. In addition, Data Sorting does not work on the desktop app either. Not sure if that's a related issue. Also tried creating a custom list - that option does not seem available - it just clicks back to the top. Happy to uninstall and reinstall the desktop app if necessary.

Any advice would be most welcome.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

According to your description, please first check whether the problem occurs in all the workbooks including the newly created ones, if so, you can perform an Online Repair to check the outcome: Repair an Office application - Office Support

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

Hi Arck Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I went through the process you suggested but unfortunately, days, months and numbers still do not autofill.

    • I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 and that has no effect.
    • I have double checked the Enable Autocomplete box which is ticked.
    • I have changed the system settings, keyboard setting and language settings, none of which work.
    • I have opened a sheet via OneDrive and autofill works fine outside the app but after downloading, Autocomplete fails to work.

I am really disappointed as I only bought Excel last week for a course. I just can not figure out why this it's not working.

    Regards,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Sorry for the late response due to being out of the office.

May I know how you 'auto-fill' the cells?

If you select more than 1 cell, please make sure you have switched to 'Fill Series' rather than 'Copy Cells', otherwise, it will only duplicate the multiple cells that you have selected.

    Hi Art,

I think we might be getting closer to the real problem: If you look at my screen shot, you'll see I don't get the same 'fill option'. I get box with a lightening flash in it. I can not select FILL via right click. When I go to select FILL on the ribbon, I can select, linear, column but the whole 'Date Unit' area is greyed out.

I have searched and searched but not found a solution. As a reminder, this only occurs on the app, not the web 365 version.

    Thanks,

    Daniel
