Dear Team,

I am trying to add validation on one of my Microsoft list but it is showing below error:

Requirement:

If "Approval Date" column is blank then "ABC1"column should be blank. If "Approval Date" column is not blank then "ABC1"column should not be blank.

Thank You!

    Hi Bavaliya,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you want to set Validation settings in SharePoint list, however, you cannot use the formula correctly.

If my understanding is right, we’d suggest you use the formula below:

    =OR(AND(ISBLANK([Approve Date]),ISBLANK(ABC1)),AND(NOT(ISBLANK([Approve Date])),NOT(ISBLANK(ABC1))))

And we have also tested it on our side, we went to SharePoint list settings > Validation settings > used the formula above, as shown below:

After setting it, we went back to SharePoint list and set the value of Approve Date column to blank and set value under ABC1, it will appear error below:

If the scenario above is not consistent with yours, you can also post back and point that.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you have a safe and happy new year.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi Bavailya,

We appreciate that you posted back and confirmed the scenario with us. We also appreciate that you spent your precious time doing those tests.

We noticed that there is some difference between the names of column we provided, so we have also created a new list and used the same formula above =OR(AND(ISBLANK([Approval Date]),ISBLANK(ABC1)),AND(NOT(ISBLANK([Approval Date])),NOT(ISBLANK(ABC1)))) and we didn’t reproduce the same situation as yours, as shown below:

Since you mentioned you still have the same error message above, to better understand your situation and narrow down this issue, could you provide the information below?

    1. Could you provide the screenshot of your list with that two columns?
    2. You can also create a new test list and just add that two columns, then you can copy the formula above to check if the same problem will occur.
    3. May I know if the other colleagues have the same problem?

Thank you for your patience so far.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
