Dear Team,

I am trying to add validation on one of my Microsoft list but it is showing below error:

Requirement:

If "Approval Date" column is blank then "ABC1"column should be blank. If "Approval Date" column is not blank then "ABC1"column should not be blank.

Thank You!

    Hi Sukie,

I tried your method but it still gives an error.

Just to mention here that my "Approval Date" column is a calculated column.

I tried to mimic your formula on 2 new columns(Without any calculation) and the validation worked properly for me.

Any idea why this validation does not work for calculated column?

    Hi Bavaliya,

Thank you for posting back again and sharing information again with us. We’re sorry the late reply due to the weekend.

According to your description, it seems that Approval date is calculated column, if so, we have also tested it on our side, we created a new SharePoint list which contains calculated column Approval Date and singe text column ABC1 and test, and we used the same formula above and we still cannot reproduce the same situation as yours, we didn’t encounter any error message.

So to do more tests on our side to check if we can reproduce the same situation, we want to confirm the information below:

    1. Could you provide the screenshot of list on your side which contains Approval Date and ABC1 column?
    2. Could you provide the screenshot of Approval Date column calculation formula? So we can use the same formula test again.

    We appreciate your understanding!

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi Sukie,

Please find attached screenshot of list which contains Approval date and ABC1

Also, check below for formula of "Approval Date" calculated column:

    =IF(OR([Trial Team Action]="Approved by Trial Team",[Trial Team Action]="Rejected by Trial Team",[Trial Team Action]="Approval not Required"),NOW(),"")

    Thanks.

We tested it again with the same column and same formulas you provided above, as shown below:

Then we used the validation settings again and we can reproduce the same situation as yours. As shown below:

We have also searched a lot and we may not find any related article mentioned it, and we also cannot find any article mentioned such limitation. Per my test, the simple formula works when using calculated column.
