Cannot open anymore databases - Access database

I am using Office 365 and running Windows 10 pro Version 10.0.19043 Build 19043. My processor is: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s).

This morning I used an Access database application that I use every morning but got the following message:

Cannot open anymore databases

There have been no changes to the database for sometime and up until this morning it worked fine.

When trying to compact and repair the database I get the following message:

You attempted to open a database already open by user Admin on machine ....

I have restarted the machine and tried repairing Office 365 both to no avail.

When right clicking MS Access on the taskbar and selecting the database I had to do it several times this morning before the database opened. I am wondering if in someway this has screwed the system up.

I also notice that the lock files are trying to synch (with OneDrive?) and cannot be deleted - I get the message below:

Can anyone shed any light on how to solve the problem?

Many thanks.

    Hi all,

According to the description this issue was applied after the latest update of Access to version Version 2201 (Build 14827.20158). Microsoft is aware of the bug and currently working on a fix. Please refer to this article for the information and a workaround Access is unable to close and leaves lockfile active (microsoft.com)

In case you want to revert to a previous version you can find the detailed steps here How to revert to an earlier version of Office (microsoft.com)

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Best Regards,

    Igor

Mine is similar. I actually have a few major related symptoms staring yesterday. If I try to open a database from a desktop shortcut or from file explorer. I get a flash on the screen, but access does not open. The lock file is created, though. I can run all of my databases if I open Access and then load them. Several of my databases would not close. I would get a blank white Access screen and could not close it except from the task manager. Several of my databases, when they close, leave the lock file, so when I run it again, I get various file access messages. I also see a couple of Access processes still running in the task manager after I have the issue. Sometimes I can kill them, and sometimes I cannot. If I cannot, I have to reboot before I can delete the lock file. Also, I used a macro to exit Access with a button. They stopped working on some of my databases, leaving the blank white window. When I changed to a command in VBA, the window would close, though the lock file was not deleted on several databases. I reinstalled office 365, and it did not fix it. So it looks like an Office update has some major bugs. My version is 2201 Build 16.0.14827.20158

I am unable to install an earlier version. I am following the instructions exactly as given on the Microsoft site to down level to the older version of Office 365, and it starts and then says it cannot find the specified configuration file. I am really frustrated that all of my databases are crippled by bugs in the new release and you have to step through hoops to install a down level instead of having simple options to select an option when you go to download it. I am running windows 11. I have tried it multiple times and tried a different method to download the image I found from another site, only to get similar issues. Can't Microsoft realize they have put out an upgrade that make Access pretty much unusable and pull the current version and make the previous version the current version until they can fix it. It is very frustrating, as I need access to my databases daily. Any suggestions on how I can easily install the previous version since the Microsoft instructions do not work on my system?

I'd urge each one of you to use the Feedback command within Access to notify Microsoft of the issue. Be sure to include your e-mail address so they can follow-up if needed.

I'm having this same issue. How do I access this feedback command within Access to report it to Microsoft? I'm on Access 2019

    Thanks,

    Mike
