Cannot open anymore databases - Access database

I am using Office 365 and running Windows 10 pro Version 10.0.19043 Build 19043. My processor is: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s).

This morning I used an Access database application that I use every morning but got the following message:

Cannot open anymore databases

There have been no changes to the database for sometime and up until this morning it worked fine.

When trying to compact and repair the database I get the following message:

You attempted to open a database already open by user Admin on machine ....

I have restarted the machine and tried repairing Office 365 both to no avail.

When right clicking MS Access on the taskbar and selecting the database I had to do it several times this morning before the database opened. I am wondering if in someway this has screwed the system up.

I also notice that the lock files are trying to synch (with OneDrive?) and cannot be deleted - I get the message below:

Can anyone shed any light on how to solve the problem?

Many thanks.

    Hi all,

According to the description this issue was applied after the latest update of Access to version Version 2201 (Build 14827.20158). Microsoft is aware of the bug and currently working on a fix. Please refer to this article for the information and a workaround Access is unable to close and leaves lockfile active (microsoft.com)

In case you want to revert to a previous version you can find the detailed steps here How to revert to an earlier version of Office (microsoft.com)

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Best Regards,

    Igor

I have sent my feedback to MS.

I too cannot revert to a previous version. I have tried repairing the current build 16.0.14827.20158, then rebooted, then followed all of the steps only to get an error message 'Something went wrong' Error code 30183-27 (400) and a link to follow which basic tells you to do everything I have just done!

I have also tried setting the Trusted Folder and subfolders as suggested elsewhere. That had no impact either. So now I seem to be stuck. Perhaps the only other action is to uninstall office and reinstall.

I was able to get it to work using the Trusted Folder solution with and additional step.

After you set the trusted location, then:

    -Close Access

    -Open the windows task manager

-Look for any instances of Microsoft Access running in the background, if you find any, kill them with "End task"

    -Close task manager

-In the windows directory where your Access program is located, find for the lock .laccdb file, and delete it.

Once I did that, all worked correctly.

Ok, following the suggestion to make sure to kill any Access processes and then deleting the lock files, after adding all of the subfolders as trusted folders for all of my databases, it does in fact look like it corrected the issues! The weirdest bug that it looks like it got rid of was that I could not open an access database from a shortcut or from file explorer. I had to open access first. After the trusted folder work around and deleting any lock files (after killing Access processes), I can now click on a database and Access will open, and the lock files are deleted after I exit Access. Thanks to all for all of the suggestions. I was really worried when most of my databases started acting up the other day! Now it looks like everything is back to normal.

Thank you Fred for this solution.

At first it did not work BUT I forgot to open the CMD window 'As Administrator'
    After that it works ;-)
And it worked on all 10 computers who were upgraded in the 2 days. For others I was able to disable automatic updates office356.

    Thank you again

    Have a nice day
