Charts not updating when data is updated

Hello,

I have built an Excel dashboard template that has 46 charts referencing cells in a table on the same worksheet. I made a slight change to the cells the charts reference for the title of the charts (the questions in a survey) to remove the question number. Of the 46 charts, 16 of them are not updating with the new title. I have tried Fn-9 to recalculate the whole workbook, Fn-Shift-9 to recalculate the worksheet, I have saved as and reopened, restarted my computer and reopened Excel, and nothing seems to update the charts. I made sure the Excel settings have calculation options set to "Automatic" and "recalculate workbook before saving" is also checked. This is maddening.

I am using Excel for Mac v16.59 on a Macbook Pro with MacOS Monterey 12.2.1.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get these charts to update? Thank you in advance for your help!

    Dear Jess,

    Welcome to the forum here.

Generally, if you use the formula reference to update the cell, the cell should be updated.

To confirm whether the issue is related to the specific file, I'd like you to copy the part of cells and the reference cells to a newly created file and then do a test to see if it works in your environment.

Meanwhile, to confirm how you update the cell, I'd like you to upload some screenshots showing the sample data source and how you update the cell for our reference.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Moreover, if the file contains no features not supported in Excel for web, I suggest you upload the file to a online place such as OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online and do a test in Excel for the web to see if the issue disappears in Excel for the web.

Thanks for your effort and time.

    Cliff

Thank you for your response. Here is a link to a sample file where this is happening. It's happening repeatedly and in several versions of the same file, but not consistently. It is also happening on Excel for web.

Here is *** of what I am referring to. The dashboard was created in English and I am translating it to French. I updated the cells by copying and pasting text from a Word document. On the first tab (Toutes les réponses – Sommaire), the charts from row 113 down reference cells B6:B30 for the title of the charts. You can easily see that some charts updated to French but the title of several charts beginning at row 205 are still in English despite the cells they reference being in French. On the other tabs, this is not the case. I copied and pasted the same French text into the cells those titles are referencing and the titles all updated correctly (though I haven't changed the language in all the formulas yet so the charts have not updated completely).

I appreciate your help and hope you can help me resolve this.

    Hi

Are you talking about labels like this one? It won't update because it is not part of the chart. It is a text box that was added to worksheet and is independent of the data. Notice the object name in the name box when the object is selected.

Thanks for looking into this. No, I'm talking about the title of the chart itself like below. The cell it is referencing for the chart title is B12, which contains the title translated into French but as you can see the title is still in English.

    Dear Jess,

    Thanks for your updates.

It seems that you shared the file from the personal OneDrive online place which we may be unable to get it based on the limited network environment.

As the forum is public, I'd like to confirm whether the file and the file link can be shared here directly. If yes, please add your confirmation and we'll remove the link after 24 hours to protect your privacy if there is no confirmation from you.

For us to get the file, I'd like you to provide the file in the private message.

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice day!

    Cliff
