In Microsoft Word, I am having difficulty when I Find and Replace a symbol.

It does not replace it with the symbol. Instead, the result of Replace is , a square box.

The symbol does appear properly on the document when entered in normally. The issue is only when I use Find and Replace, and replace with a symbol.

You can insert the replacement character into a document and copy it to the clipboard with Ctrl+C. In the Find & Replace dialog box, specify that you want to replace the word you are searching for with clipboard content: ^c. See screen shot below.

Repair will do nothing with this. Stefan's method should work.
