Some how my Microsoft Authenticator app did not sync and is not connected to my Facebook account any longer. After attempting to reset my FB password - the final step is to enter a code generated from the app, which isn’t connected/syncing to Facebook. I’ve been unsuccessful with any resolve from FB. Can anyone recommend a solution from the Authenticator side? Thanks to anyone who has any thoughts/solutions.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1252643/microsoft-authenticator-codes-facebook-out-of-sync - I've submitted the same issue here.

Spent a month going back and forth with every available avenue (there's not many) with Meta and both Microsoft (they completely distance themselves from Microsoft Authenticator - Apparently not their product / not their problem) & Azure (who were also not of a lot of help).

    SOLUTION:

Your best bet is to wait once you've been logged out. Keep checking back in to attempt login from different browsers (Microsoft Edge is the only one that worked for me). When on the /checkpoint page for two-factor authentication the 'Get More Help' link will appear allowing you to upload your ID, 48 hours later a link with a code appears. Another big tip when locked out due to Facebook two-factor authentication - USE A FACEBOOK MOBILE APP to log back in using the code you received as your password. That way you have access to 'Code Generator' for future login attempts if nothing.

My recommendation - Go through this recovery process slowly after clicking on the link, where they ask if you have access to a phone number to receive the 2FA code, say 'No'. This will allow you to add a new number and log in.

Note - It took me three attempts to upload my ID and get through.

The first attempt - ID rejected because it was blurry.

The second attempt - I used my mobile browser to log in (so not code generator) AND went too quickly through the process, missing the part where I said 'Yes' to having access to the number (even though the number wasn't showing on the screen).

The third attempt - I got another email with the link saying - you haven't completed logging in - this meant that as soon as I clicked on the link, I was taken to my mobile app - back to the same two-factor authentication question regarding having access to the phone number I previously had on there, this time I said 'No' and I was in.

This can be a very harrowing process so providing as much information as I have.

What didn't work - Everything else! The help centre can be really useless when it comes to this two-factor authentication issue. Especially the Meta Pro Support Team - They are 100% useless and can get you really stressed. Microsoft Azure team will also waste your time - THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
