    Dear Gitanjali Cloud Admin

Good day! Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, I would like to collect more information to troubleshoot.

    1. May I know how you open this SharePoint workbook, from the Excel application (File> Open> select the online location and open it) or from the local library sync folder (if you have synced the SharePoint library to local)? If you open this workbook from the local library folder, please try to open it from the Excel application directly, check if the situation happens again or not.
    2. Does the situation happen in opening a specific workbook or also in opening other SharePoint workbooks?

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Dear Gitanjali Cloud Admin,

    Thanks for posting back.

I still want to know if the situation happens when you open the workbook from the Excel application directly. It will help us to troubleshoot if the situation is caused by the browser or not.

Also, please try to use another browser and open the private window to access the library, then check if the situation happens again or not.

If the situation still happens, I would like to collect more information.

    1. Does the situation happen in opening a specific workbook or also in opening other SharePoint workbooks?
    2. Does the situation happen in opening files from a specific library/site or also from other libraries/sites?

All the information you provide will help us narrow down the problem. We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Hello,

I don't want to open the file from Excel application, instead I directly want it to open through SharePoint.

Its happening only for specific document library in SharePoint.

I can perfectly open the file through browser but not from the client application.

I am thinking is it the permission level which is not allowing me to open it in application. The permission level which I have for that document library is "EDIT, LIMITED ACCESS"

Please let me know if its something related to permissions or not,

    Thanks,

    Gitanjali

    Dear Gitanjali Cloud Admin,

    Sorry for my late reply.

According to your description, the error message will pop on when you go to the library, select the file and choose "Open in App". If so, as far as I know, no library settings or related permission may cause this kind of error message. Please try the following steps and check if the situation still happens or not.

    1. Clear the cache Run the Office application, click File> Options, in the Save tab, under Cache Settings, click Delete cached files and make sure the option “Delete files from the Office Document Cache when they are closed” is ticked.
    2. Use another browser and open the private window to access this library, then select the file and choose "Open in App".

If the situation still happens, I would like to collect more information.

    1. Does the situation happen to a specific user or all users?
    2. What if you create a new file in this document, then test again, does the situation still happen?
    3. Share with us the problem file's link. You can remove the domain part in the URL to protect your privacy

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.
