Adding Modern Comments and Assigning task does not add to "To Do"

We are using modern comments across Word and other O365 products for collaboration and moving documents along a process. While the @mentions are very useful, assigning a task seems to only assign WITHIN the document?

There must be a way to add these tasks to the "To Do" TASK assigning product...or is Microsoft just missing a blatantly required feature?
