problem creating interactive outline using headings

I have a problem creating interactive outlines using headings;

I can make headings using styles, but they do not appear in the headings side bar;

but sample docs do have them;

edit:

I find the problem relates to pasted text;

what are the format rules that define a heading?

highlighting a line of pasted text and changing the style to Heading1 is not recognised as a heading, but typing the same line of text and changing the style is;

thanks

Instead of selecting a sentence, just click inside the text. That should prevent Word from trying to access formatting to only the selected range.

If you have a chance to look at the document in a full version of Word (for PC or Mac), I would recommend that you do so, to get more information.

    hi Anna,

    thank you for your kind answer; the comparison table does tell me that word for android can not create a table of contents, but it's not quite the same thing;

    I can see now that the problem is something to do with formatting of pasted text;

    many thanks

    Hi James

    I'm AnnaThomas and I'd be happy to help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

    One possible reason for this could be that the version of Word you are using does not support the creation of interactive outlines using headings. The Android version is more limited in its features than the desktop editions, please see the link below to compare Word features on different platforms

    I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
