Just finished following Jim's instructions and Excel is working again! Thanks so much. Joe
Solution to error message when Excel won't open at all on new MacBook Air. Was working fine a couple of days ago.
I have a new MacBook Air with M2 and Office 365. All of a sudden Excel won't open at all. It states Excel quit unexpectedly. The error message report references Namespace DYLD, Code 1 Library missing. Library not loaded. I have tried restarting, closing other apps. I don't have antivirus. Thoughts? Would removing Excel and then redownloading be the best option at this time?

The article may have been updated in 2022, but the content is still for Office 2011. For the last decade Mac OS automatically repairs disk permissions. You can't do it manually any more. As I said, any advice geared to 13 year old apps and operating systems is unlikely to be relevant to today's Mac OS or Office.
It's important to TEST the advice you give BEFORE posting a link. If you provide instructions for repairing disk permissions, TRY IT FIRST. Can YOU even do it? Does the procedure fix the problem under discussion? The answer to both questions in this case is a solid NO.
Quoting the page you referred to:
Step 5: Use the Repair Disk Permissions feature
You can use the Repair Disk Permissions feature to troubleshoot permissions problems in Mac OS X 10.2 or later versions. To use the Repair Disk Permissions feature, follow these steps:
- On theGomenu, selectUtilities*.*
- Start theDisk Utilityprogram.
- Select the primary hard disk drive for your computer.
- On theFirst Aidtab, selectRepair Disk Permissions*.*
Note
The Disk Utility program repairs only software that is installed by Apple. This utility also repairs folders, such as the Applications folder. However, this utility does not repair software that is in your home folder.
