SharePoint data source in Excel for the Web?

Hi,

We had an Excel file with a data connection to a SharePoint list.

This has recently stopped working as the data connection is now 'legacy'.

Therefore I have rebuilt the connection in PowerQuery, which works well in the Desktop app.

However, this is not supported in Excel for the Web, where many users interact with it.

Is there a way to connect to a SharePoint list that is compatible with Excel for the web?

It seems that by retiring legacy connections and not supporting the new method of PowerQuery, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Thanks,

James.

    Hi James,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, these users don't have a license to use the Office desktop app. As Power Query in Excel for the Web only supports refreshing data from Table/Range and OData Feed source, I am afraid that I haven't found any method to meet your requirement. Based on my search, you can use Power BI to create a dataset from a SharePoint list and have users view data in the Power BI service (https://app.powerbi.com).

    For your reference:
Create a Power BI dataset directly from a SharePoint list

Also, we welcome community members to share ideas about the situation if one has related experiences.
