SharePoint Document library with metadata columns set to required columns, document checked out automatically

Hi All,

As I understand, the new Modern Library doesn't require checkout or force metadata, and provides the "Files that need attention" view so that files missing metadata can be addressed.

However since last week, observing that team members are missing files/ changes to files and the documents are automatically being checked out.

Presuming it is related to metadata column not entered.

How to help users recover missing file contents? or prevent this from happening again? Has anyone seen this issue lately?

At the moment it effects only one SharePoint site in our tenant, it is created using communication site template.

Looking forward to inputs.

Thanks in advance!

    Dear KSMB_2020,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

in this given this situation we need more information and testing , we do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. Since you mentioned only this specific user has this problem, this issue may be related to specific account. We’d suggest you contact your office 365 administrator to go to Office 365 Admin Center-> Support-> New Service Request, the support engineers there have the correct escalation channel and this is the most efficient way to report such issue. You can refer to this article to check the way how to raise a ticket. Ways to contact support for business products - Admin help. The engineers in related team have higher permission and resources than us and they may help check it from background.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated.

If there is any misunderstanding, please feel free to correct me.

    Have a nice day!

    Best regards,
