Can't remove the default buttons from Excel Quick Access Tool Bar

Hi Team,

After the latest update in Nov 23 of Microsoft 365, I found that I can't remove those default buttons in red frame from Quick Access Toolbar. I try using right click to remove, but each time I open a new file they will come back.

And the "Remove" in Option is not working. Each time I remove all these buttons and click ok, they will remain in the QAT bar (My "Modify..." is greyed out too, I don't know what's the issue). However, if I change my personal buttons except the above default ones, I can save the changes, so I consider this's not the user profile crush issue.

I already tried all those method mentioned in this thread(Except create new user profile since it's company laptop I don't want to touch user setting): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/excel-quick-access-toolbar-modify-option-is-greyed/6a956410-67c5-44e4-b394-64a83cc120ea

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

YH

    Hi Snow Lu,

    Just a catch-up with you.

Investigating with our IT staff, turned out only my device has this kind of issue even they reinstalled my Microsoft 365. IT staff suggested that this's not local policy issue.

My solution now is to re-order the QAT bar by arranging all default buttons after my personal setting, so that I won't keep clicking the wrong buttons. Only by doing this I can save the setting.

    Again, thanks for your help.

    Hi Snow,

Will there be a solution to this problem? Since the default button cannot be removed, it appears to be a bug.

Rather than create a new thread, I'll reply to this one since we are having the same issue but in Word.

The problem is like described above. It started off with a one user last week but now has affected pretty much all but one of the devices in our division. We have special macros that are embedded into the QAT. We use the QAT as a tool for dozens of keyboard shortcuts but now the keyboard shortcuts are different because of the 4 default commands that we can't remove. If we go the "Customize the Quick Access Toolbar" page and try to remove them, nothing happens. The only way to get rid of them temporarily is click the little down arrow at the end of the QAT and uncheck them. But as soon as we open another document, they appear again.

I've narrowed this down to the word.customui I believe. The file does not exist in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office like it should. When I manually create this file and place in that location and try to update the QAT, the Word.officeui file is deleted. If I copy the customized Word.officeui file from the last device that still works and place it in the folder, all customization settings are ignored.
