Changing default save path to where the source of the document was originally from.

I have multiple client folders, and I often have multiple versions of a document. I want to change the default save settings so that it assumes I want the document saved in the same folder I got it from. Is that possible? For example, I have a folder named CLIENT, and subfolders for each client, e.g. Bob Smith. When I open a document from Bob Smith's folder to edit, I often want to create a different version, while keeping the original version. Previously, when I clicked "Save As" the program assumed my starting points were all the same place/name, etc... Now, the program assumes I want to save it in OneDrive, and I have to manually remap the saving process back to my server, through the various folders till I get back to Bob Smith's folder. I would like to have the old defaults back. It appears that the best I can get it to do is save only one folder for everything, e.g. Z Drive / CLIENTS.

Yes, Suzanne, I used the forum AI, rather than typing out the instructions. I thought it had got it right for once and did not notice it had missed out>Click 'Save to computer by default'. But mine is ticked. (That AI has got a lot of leaning to do. When I hear how it is going to change the World, I do wonder why Microsoft and others are useless with their AI helpers).

But you must also enable "Save to Computer by default" if you want the files stored locally.

In your options under File > Options > Save have you told Word to save to your computer by default?

Hi Gavin, I think that Charles gave you what you wanted "In your options under File > Options > Save have you told Word to save to your computer by default?"
