Remove Mailbox with -Type Workspace

Hello,

I have a setup of two m365 tenants connected to each other.

I have created a Mailbox with Type Workspace on one tenant

New-Mailbox -Room <NAME> | Set-Mailbox -Type Workspace

Now I would like to remove the Workspace to add it to the other tenant.

I can remove the Mailbox of the Workspace but I still get the error.

The name "<NAME>" is already being used. Please try another name.

... when I try to create the Workspace on the other tenant.

I also tried the solution mentioned here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/troubleshoot/authentication/office-365-user-with-name-already-exists

If the mailbox is deleted the cmdlet returns nothing on both tenants.

Many thanks in advance.

We found the root cause for this issue. There had been a contact with the same name created which I failed to find via powershell.

    • May I please double confirm if you are using Exchange on-premises, Exchange Hybrid or Exchange Online environment?

    Yes, we use Exchange Online

    • If you are using Exchange Online, may I please confirm if you checked if the room mailbox in question is listed in the deleted users? if you haven't check it yet, please kindly go to Microsoft 365 admin center -->Users -->Deleted Users.
    • If the room mailbox in question is listed in the deleted users, please kindly go to Azure active directory (https://entra.microsoft.com/)-->Users -->Deleted users -->select the room mailbox -->Delete permanently. See the screenshot below.

Exactly. I have removed the user from Deleted Users and waited for 12 hours still it's not possible to create a User/Mailbox/Workspace on the other tenant.
