OneNote - Unsupported Browser error

Hi Folks,

Getting this weird error in OneNote for Windows 10 application (NOT the web version or App).

When I insert a file and choose the 'upload to OneDrive and insert link' option, I get this error:

I've no idea why it's giving this error when I'm using the full OneNote version (not the web version etc.).

Anyone have any ideas?

PS, I've tested this on 3 other users and all having the same issue (this previously worked fine for us).

Thanks,

    Dear Stuart,

Thank you for posting this question in Microsoft Community.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together and try to move in the resolving direction.

Could you try to create a new notebook that have same issue or not?

If not, you could copy and paste everything over to the new notebook.

If yes, you could try to change the default browser Change your default browser in Windows - Microsoft Support

If you have tried the method with no success, I suggest you raise a support ticket from the Office 365 admin center, where the related team will collect the logs and find out the cause of the problem. Reference: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Note: To create a support ticket, you need to have admin privileges and if you aren’t admin of your Office 365 organization, please contact the admin of creating a new ticket.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Have a good day!!

    Best Regards,

It would be helpful to know which default browser you are using.

    • the Windows version

    Hi,

We are not using the browser.

As mentioned in my first post, we are using the full application "OneNote for windows 10".

    Cheers

I know but I'm almost sure that behind the curtain a browser is used to get the link from OneDrive.

I've tested on multiple devices and same issue.

I've fully updated Chrome and Edge (and toggled between these as the 'default' browsers for the device) which made no difference.

This issue cropped up on a school (staff account). I've replicated the error on and off the school network and also between personal and 'work' accounts (also on a personal account on a personal device).

Seems like a fault to me.

    * Have tried on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

The constant is the version of OneNote. (OneNote for windows 10)

*** Just to note. As a test, I did try this method with the online version. It just errors (gives no reason for the error).
