How to identify files that failed to upload to OneDrive

Question

I uploaded an 8 GB folder with multiple subfolders and hundreds of (if not thousands) files, and it says 31 items weren't uploaded to One Drive (web). I don't see any specific information on which files weren't uploaded.

 

I compared the size of each uploaded subfolder and found the sizes were the same as the original. So, it's impossible to identify failed files without further information. None of my files seems to apply to the causes listed on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/fix-problems-uploading-files-on-the-onedrive-website-9afcc4a0-e344-4bc9-9c9d-59d3e802247e.

Meanwhile, I uploaded the same folder to Google Drive and had no issue. Even when there is an issue uploading to Google Drive, it shows the file names that failed to upload.

I wonder why OneDrive doesn't have such an essential feature that Google Drive has had for years. Or is there any other way to identify failed files?

This is not a difficult to understand question but you are MAKING it more difficult by suggesting we upload only from the OneDrive that is SYNCHED to our PC. 

 Many of us likely have several OneDrive accounts, only ONE of which is SYNCHED to our PC. 

Therefore uploading from our PC's OneDrive folder is EXACTLY what we do NOT want to do. 

  We want to upload to OneDrive from other sources, be they external hard drives or folders from other PCs. 

  We want to (idiotically?) put various data into the OneDrives we PAY FOR as backups and to be able to access that data from the web. 

  We do NOT want to synchronize this data, but to keep it as backups as I describe. 

   \*\*\* Why is this so difficult? 

    I am sick of being tortured for using Microsoft products. 

    This is not a problem with Google Drive or iCloud, so now what... now I have to now purchase their cloud space when I already pay for multiple OneDrives? 

    BOTTOM LINE:  How is it useful for us to know that "84 files" (out of 32,000) were not uploaded to a OneDrive account if there is no way to determine which of the 32,000 files they were. 

    How about Microsoft stop fiddling with Word for the millionth time and fix this basic issue of cloud computing?

Hi dolpha,

Welcome to the Microsoft community.

It would be best to upload from the OneDrive folder on your PC. That way you are sure to get the upload completed and if not you should be able to locate the files that did not upload successfully. If you don't want to backup your PC's files to OneDrive then be sure to turn off the backup of your folders at OneDrive app Settings > Sync and Backup tab > Manage backup.

Fix OneDrive Sync problems

This blue circle with arrows means you may also have a problem:

OneDrive is stuck on "Processing changes"

OneDrive is stuck on "Sync pending"

Make sure you turn off the backup at Manage Backup if you only want to use the OneDrive folder for uploading files to OneDrive. Otherwise, OneDrive will sync (upload and backup) those folders that you see at Manage Backup.

Also, you can right-click files in the OneDrive folder and select "Free up space" to make the files online-only.
