TargetUserAlreadyHasPrimaryMailboxException Error - Stumped on how to solve

Good Morning all,

I'm looking for some insight on how various organizations have solved this issue when migrating users.

For reference we have a handful of users that had an Exchange Online license turned on when they were assigned a license manually (no longer doing manual assignments for good reason). Some of these users are admins and cannot afford to have their 365 data wiped, although their mailboxes being wiped would be fine.

The mentioned users get the dreaded TargetUserAlreadyHasPrimaryMailboxException error when being migrated.

Any tricks for removing mailbox cleanly and being able to migrate these users would be greatly appreciated!!

Sincerely,

Bill
