Sharepoint Folder with created by a specific user name on it that has never been in that location or even created a folder

I know this question was asked a year ago, but we are having this same issue and the answer provided did not help. I have talked directly to staff and they did not create these files. Even more, we recently created a new folder (march 12 2024) and suddenly today we have 2000+ files duplicates (empty files) created by a staff member who doesn't use this SP Hub. The files appear to have been created in November, December 2023, and January and February 2024 when the folder was not even created (again, we created the folder on 3/12/2024). Our IT team keeps saying that the audit says they created it but the amount of files and client names to which they have no access makes it impossible, also we asked and the staff member did not create these files. Can you advise?

Thank you, Sofia. I will talk to our IT team and give them this information. I wanted to add that I deleted the files yesterday and left our folder perfect, only to find this morning that they were, all 2000+ client folders, created again somehow, allegedly by another staff member... this is crazy and is causing so many issues in our organization. If I get an answer, I'll add it here just in case someone else in the world is going through this same issue.

    Thanks again.

    Dear Laura Vargas Quintero,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and to my knowledge, the behavior you are encountering is not an expected because SharePoint Online or OneDrive sync client will not create the files or folders automatically without any user intervention or any third-party application interacting with the OneDrive sync client.

I believe the problem need to be further investigated by the related development team via collecting the HAR logs, where the related team will look into the logs from their backend and find out the cause of the problem.

I do feel regret for not resolving the problem and redirecting you to the related development team but the fix to your concern can be find out through the HAR logs and suggest you raise a support ticket from the Office 365 admin center, where the related team will investigate the problem further by collecting the HAR logs.

Note: To create a support ticket, you need to have admin privileges and if you aren’t admin of your Office 365 organization, please contact the admin of creating a new ticket. How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,
