I need help with Authenticator app

i have been trying to re-add my work email to the Authenticator app but im having issues. When i go to add my email and enter my email & password Microsoft opens a window and says to open Authenticator app and Approve sign in request and give a 2 digit code. The issue is im not getting the prompt in the app to enter the code. Same thing happens when i try to sign back into Teams, Sharepoint or my work email on my phone. I get the 2 digit code but im never prompted by the app. Im going in circles here.
