Retirement Announcement - Migrate your cloud services to the new Cloud Services (extended support) deployment model before 31 August 2024

On 31 August 2024, we'll retire the Cloud Services (classic) deployment model. Before that date, you'll need to migrate your services that were deployed using this model to Cloud Services (extended support) in Azure Resource Manager, which provides new capabilities, including:

Support for deployment templates.

Role-based access control.

Regional resiliency.

As microsoft azure announced they are going to stop support for Cloud Services (classic) on 31st August 2024. My question is whether Network Security groups (classic) are going to retire on the same date?

We are being told we have classic resources (i.e. classic vnets) but no one can find them. I am trying to clarify if they are just going to delete any remaining classic resources after retirement date?

Hi Ramon, within the Azure portal, go to Advisor, select Workbooks and then open the 'Service Retirement' workbook. This will list all the resources scheduled for retirement. Highlight the one you need to find and scroll to the bottom of the page. All the impacted resources should be listed there. Make sure you have the Subscription, resource group and location filters set to all.

@Mark Furnell and @vipullag-MSFT I have pointed services to the Advisor Service Retirement Workbook in Portal and they do not see any resources to move/delete. Is that the defining list, meaning if the service isn't listed there then they are done then? Thanks.

If we don't complete our migration to Cloud Services (extended support) before Sept 1 will the service continue to work on Sept 1 but not deployable or will it stop working on Sept 1?

Your documentation states "VIP Swap capability may be used to swap between two cloud services (extended support). To test and stage a new release of a cloud service, deploy a cloud service (extended support) and tag it as VIP swappable with another cloud service (extended support)".

I cannot find any further explanations on how to actually go about doing this. It would be great if there were steps showing how to achieve this functionality.

There is no sunset or end date for this yet. You may consider this as a long term offering for ARM platform.

Yes, Cloud Services (extended support) has standard SLA as Cloud Services (classic) and we provide support for this product just like any other generally available product.

We use a classic worker role to provide a custom TCP endpoint. Is there any plan to provide TCP (as opposed to HTTP) endpoints on Azure Functions or some other offering so that we can migrate away from the worker-role?

what if we still want to use ASE v2 till December 2024. We have 4 ASE v2 and around 200 app services are hosted on it. We are still in the process of migration and we need some time.

Is there anyway we can get Extended support from Microsoft? Please help me on this question.

We are using Isolated plans. we can migrate ASP to premium so that can we still use ASE v2 till December?

we are using ASEV2 and our current ASP plans are Isolated I1.

I don't see the option to scale it out to P3v3.

So do I need to migrate ASEv2 to ASEv3?

What will happen if we don't migrate from ASE V2 to ASEV3 after 31st August 2024?

Can we still use the ASEV2 for some more days till we migrate to ASEV3

Is also possible post 31st August Microsoft will auto upgrade the ASEv2 to ASEV3 from Microsoft end if incase we don't upgrade from client side?

The option to receive a grace period is a bit delayed but should be available by next week. We will not delete/automigrate until that feature is released and customers are given a couple weeks to request needed updates.

If you need more than 30 days, please open a support ticket or work with your account team.

I have the same question.

I already deleted my Cloud Services (classic) but I still received a notification email from Microsoft. It says that "You’re receiving this email because you are currently using Cloud Services (classic)"

I found it! So simple in the end - In the Azure portal, in the top search bar, simply search for 'Cloud Services (classic)'

Make sure you have your subscriptions filter set to show all subscriptions.

Someone on Reddit also recommended this link -- https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Expert/AdvisorMenuBlade/~/workbooks and then clicking on the Service Retirement (Preview) option to see what features are retiring and what you have in them.

I post-mortemed Microsoft's email to us, and that link was in the email, buried under a bunch of clutter about opening a support request and contacting the forums with a seven-step instruction manual on how to proceed.

The guy on Reddit said "click on this" and I had what I needed.

I've been using Azure Cloud Services(classic) and so, I've received Microsoft Retirement Announcement e-mail. Now, the retirement date is very near future.

In the announcement e-mail, there's a note that you must migrate them to Cloud Services (extended support) in Resource Manager before 31 August 2024.

I wonder if there's some button which automatically the migration process is done or if I have to do the migration manually through Visual Studio.

Hello,

We have a CMG deployed using Classic Service and are unable to use the migrate option (enabled Feature but option greyed out). Is it true that the old CMG must be removed before implementing a new VMSS instance? Is it possible to reuse the existing Azure workspace or should these also be created new?
