Today I am having an issue with every excel file that contains links between workbooks.
Suddenly workbooks are taking upwards of 7 minutes to open where before they only took 10-20 seconds.
I made a test workbook that is 141KB with links to a blank workbook. The test workbook takes 60 seconds to open. If I open the blank workbook first, the test workbook opens almost instantly.
I have tried repairing office 365, re-installing office 365, changing from 64 to 32bit and back, disabling all anti-virus, switching user accounts, switching computers, and restarting the computer multiple times throughout.
Unsure if this is related but: When the workbooks eventually open, I am unable to insert rows or columns. I do not have a greyed out insert prompt, I simply click the button to insert, the workbook calculates, and nothing happens. Same for copy and insert pasted row, and with inserting rows and columns using the UI at the top. Nothing happens both with and without filters on.
edit: I accidentally put 14KB instead of 141KB

I had the same issue (workbooks with multiple links taking 5+ minuts to open) running Version 2405 (build 17628.20110)
Reverting to Version 2404 (build 17531.20152) allows linked workbooks to open normally again (e.g. less than 10 seconds).
@Microsoft Support, Is this a bug in Version 2505 that can be addressed/corrected in a future build? Thank you,
What did Microsoft change this week that now makes this a major issue?
I have a workbook I have been using which is a critical tool for me and it has links to a many other files and the load time is now 20 minutes as opposed to what it was just last week at 15 seconds max to load. Breaking all of the links and the file immediately started loading as usual. But after I rebuilt all of the links- the second I closed the file it now takes 20 minutes to save...
Am I really expected to update all of my formulas to this format or some other one for the columns referencing other workbooks to start working?
Could you share a test file to reproduce your issue?
For sharing a sample workbook, upload to OneDrive or any other cloud drives. Then post a link here.

Yes but if the file is uploaded to the cloud, it opens instantly. Thus I do not believe it is possible to reproduce using the file online. Maybe if you download them? However, the test files are easily reproducible on your desktop. Just open 2 blank workbooks, set one book equal to the cells in the other, then drag down for a bit. save and close them both, then open the one that has the links.
That being said, here they are: t1 pulls from t2. 60 seconds to open t1 when both are on my desktop.

I will look into creating a ticket, but this will remain unanswered for now.
