Slide Master not saving settings?

Hello! I made a custom slide deck for company use and when you go to reuse slides from old slides, it does not save my settings (i.e. slide number still showing up, not all font is correct, footers not holding) I have tried individually adding each slide which works intermittently and is more time consuming. There are no additional slide masters from the previous presentation that are confusing the system. Thank you!

    Dear Mary,

Thank you for your posting back.

According to your response, this issue is happening equally to your colleague and having the same issue with other masters. This could be due to your old and new versions being unusually compatible. I'm afraid this issue needs to be escalated by backend log collection. I recommend you contact the administrator in your tenant and let him open a support ticket to our related team to seek further help: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

You can try the methods mentioned by John Korchok, these experts have more experience in the field of PowerPoint.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Reusing slides, or copying and pasting them, requires the receiving presentation to be compatible with the old one. Here's my article on creating new templates that are compatible: Legacy Slides - Best Practices

    Hi Claire,

    1. Yes my colleagues are having the same issues
    2. My PowerPoint version is 2405 build 17628.20144
    3. In the past, I have had the system get confused if there are more than one side masters, yes

I so appreciate your help and quick response!

    Thank you,

    Mary

    Dear Mary C2172,

Good day. Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, you create a custom slide master to use. However, your settings won't be saved, and you won't be able to use the template directly. You can only change it page by page.

Please try to repair the Office application at first, and check if it works for you. Reference: Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

If not, please provide me the following information:

    1. Could you tell me if your colleagues have the same issue?
    2. Could you provide me the PowerPoint version?
    3. I noticed you mentioned “There are no additional slide masters from the previous presentation that are confusing the system.” Could you tell me do you have this problem if you use other masters in this presentation?

Thank you for your time and patience.

    Sincerely,

    Claire | Microsoft Community Moderator
