Share exclude dictionary?

Hi community. I've searched but can't find an answer to a question I have about the exclude dictionary.

We're a team of writers who work on the same content, so we also need to follow the same set of excluded terms. Rather than each of us maintaining our own excluded terms in our local uproof folder, is it possible to have a shared version on a network drive? This would also make maintaining the list much more manageable.

thanks

Tony

    Sort of.

You could have your network Log-In contain an instruction to update a local file from the one on the network file.

This is a one-way setup. Someone would need to be in charge of updating it from time to time.

Thanks Charles. In the absence of a centralised exclude file, I see how this could work.

    regards

    thanks George, I'll do that.

FYI, to achieve the same result, I got a little help from ChatGPT to create a Word macro that pulls in a list of excluded terms from an Excel file and highlights any matching words in the document being worked on. The exclude file also contains alternative words and relevant comments, which are then also added as comments in the Word doc. In that respect, it's better than the built-in exclude file as it's adds context, rather than just underling the excluded word.

    regards

    Hi Tony,

Thanks for posting in the community.

We would love to help you with your query, however, our team has limited resources to rebuild a similar environment to test it on our end directly. I hope you understand that in this case it is difficult for us to answer your questions without testing. Since your query is related to using the same .dic file for multiple users on a network drive,  I recommend you post a new thread in the Microsoft Q&A Community there for expert help and confirmation. You can click "Ask a question" and add the tags Office Managementand Windowsin the Tags field when posting a new thread.

Also, we welcome community members to share ideas about the situation if one has related experiences.

Appreciate your understanding and patience. 😊

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator
