Hi All.

I'm facing an issue with Copy-Paste in the SharePoint list. Previously, I could Copy-Paste from one row to another when in Grid view. Now, I can no longer do that for some very strange reasons unknow to me. I can't even copy a row. Normally, selecting a row and pressing Ctrl + C would highlight the row with a dashed red line, but now nothing happens. Has anyone experienced this or knows a way to fix it?

Thank you!

    Dear Azaga,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. We are here to assist you.

I understand that you are having trouble with the copy-paste function in SharePoint's Grid view. Previously, you could copy a row by selecting it and pressing Ctrl + C, which highlighted the row with a dashed red line. Now, this no longer working for you. However, in my test lab I am successfully able to copy and pest the items.

Here are a few steps you can try based on that discussion:

    1. Check Column Settings: Ensure that the columns you are trying to copy are not set to "Rich text." If they are, try changing them to "Enhanced text" and see if that resolves the issue.
    2. Validation Rules: Verify if there are any validation rules or column settings that might be interfering with the copy-paste functionality.
    3. Browser and Account: Try using a different browser or a different user account to see if the issue persists.
    4. Clear Cache: Clear your browser's cache and try the copy-paste action again.

We found a similar thread about your query, please have a check if the answer in the thread to see if it's fit your situation. For your reference: Not all columns are copying in SharePoint online list using the grid - Microsoft Community

Note: the three options of "Multiple lines of text which op mentioned in the thread from>list settings>Columns>find the multiple text and click it, then the page will disappear for the 3 options settings.

If the scenario above is not consistent with yours, you can also post back and point that. Please notice the above information is vital for us to further assist you, any updates please feel free to post back.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be helpful to raise a support ticket with Microsoft for further assistance.

Have a great day and take care! 😊

    Hi Narendra,

Thank you very much for your kind response. I reviewed all the steps you recommended before reaching out to the community, but I missed noticing that one of my columns uses Managed Metadata. For some reason, it seems I can no longer copy Managed Metadata fields. This is surprising, as we previously had no issues with copying and pasting, but now it suddenly isn’t working.

    Do you have any recommendation?

    Best

    Azaga

    Dear Azaga,

Copying Managed Metadata fields in a SharePoint library can be a bit tricky, make sure the destination library has the same Managed Metadata columns as the source library. The column names and types must match exactly.

I found a discussion on the Microsoft Tech Community about using Power Automate to automatically fill metadata in a SharePoint library.  This discussion includes steps and suggestions for setting up a Power Automate flow to populate metadata fields when a new document is created in a SharePoint library.

Since our community is mainly focus on the SharePoint online general and build-in features issues and this specific query might require more specialized assistance to create flow, I recommend visiting the Power Apps Community Forum. The experts and other users there have a wealth of knowledge and should be able to provide the detailed help you need. The Power Apps Community Forum is a great resource for specialized assistance. They will review your Power Automate flow to ensure it updates the metadata correctly. Help you to test the flow with sample data and check for errors. If needed, you can also ask them to adjust the flow steps and permissions.

In case you need further support please raise Support request from O365 admin center or you can post your query in Power Apps Community Forum.

Have a great day and take care! 😊

For me, it was that I typically use Shift+Del and Shift+Ins to copy or paste. Shift+Ins no longer works on Edit in Grid View, but Control+V does
