Hey,

I've got an external government company trying to email a user of ours "John Smith", anyone from there (even the IT guy) is sending it to his current email domain ********************** but it keeps going to the old domain ********************** ", which we deactivated about 2 months ago.

I've emailed to ********************** from my personal Yahoo and Gmail, and they said through with no issues.

I've renamed his account to include a 123 at the end, then created a new account. Still, the government people are getting the bounce back.

To me it seems like their server isn't updating with the correct DNS details.

This is also happening with a few other employees who have been here when they had the ********************** domain.

I've never had that domain on my account, so i don't have the issues they are having.

I'm not sure what else i can try.

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

Contact the recipient by some other means (by phone, for example) and ask them to tell their email admin that it appears that their domain isn't properly registered at their domain registrar. Give them the error details shown below. It's likely that the recipient's email admin is the only one who can fix this problem.

    Hi, Robb

    Good day!

Thanks for posting into our community.

According to your description, it sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

From your company It seems like the issue might be related to the DNS settings on the external government's email server. They might not have updated their DNS records to reflect the new domain. You can ask them to check their DNS settings and ensure that they are pointing to the correct domain. Additionally, you can suggest that they flush their DNS cache to ensure that they are using the most up-to-date information.

From the Web To resolve this issue, you can follow the instructions provided in the bounce-back message: Contact the recipient by alternative means, such as by phone, and inform them about the email delivery issue. Ask the recipient to notify their email administrator that their domain may not be properly registered at their domain registrar.

Additionally, make sure that the new domain is verified in the Microsoft 365 portal and that the MX record for the new domain points to the value listed in the DNS Settings section of the Microsoft 365 portal for Exchange Online -Emails aren't received for a new domain - Exchange | Microsoft Learn.

In addition, for saving your time, would you please use your administrator account or contact your administrator and refer Microsoft Online Tech Support team directly - Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn. For this team which has higher permission and able to check on the server-side for you.

Thanks for your precious time and your understanding would be highly appreciated.
