I can't log into my account because I can't access the authenticator because I lost my phone. How do I log into my account without having to verify it on the authenticator?

Hello Roger SSL,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

Based on your explanation, I understand that you lost access to your account due to an authentication issue.

If you're using a Microsoft work/education account assigned by your organization

Since you don't currently have access to the phone number, it's recommended that you contact your administrator and ask them to reset the authentication method for your account. The administrator can do this by following Manage user's authentication options. (If you're not sure who your administrator is, you can refer to this How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support).

If you are a sole administrator and are unable to access your account due to an authentication issue, it is recommended that you contact the Data Protection team as we are from the community team and do not have the authority to reset any user/administrator accounts. The Data Protection Team is the only support team that verifies and resets the account. To find the contact number for the Data Protection team, see: Find Microsoft 365 for business support phone numbers by country or region - Microsoft 365 Admin | Microsoft Learn or Global Customer Service - Microsoft Support phone numbers.

During a phone call, here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

In some countries, it is an automated conversation as follows: First, when you call the hotline, you will be asked as follows:

IVR: What kind of problem are you facing?

O: Authenticator.

IVR: What kind of product do you use?

You: Office 365 for Business.

IVR confirmation: training or company account?

O: For companies

IVR: Are you a manager?

You: Yes.

IVR: Is there another administrator in your organization?

You: No.

IVR: Do you need anything? Container?

O: Yes

Please try the following conversation:

  1. Dial the phone number.
  2. IVR: "Welcome to Microsoft Support. Are you looking for a home or a job?
    • O: "Work"
  3. IVR: "How can I help you today?"
    • You: "Data protection support"
  4. IVR: "Do you already have a case number?"
    • You: "No"
  5. IVR: "Do you have an Access ID?"
    • You: "No"
  6. IVR: "Please wait while we transfer your call to the appropriate team."

You're using a personal Microsoft account that ends in outlook.com/hotmail.com/live.com/msn.com.
