Hi Suport Team,

I am using the email for business, I want to set my colleague to the editor of my document following bellow steps:

  1. Open the document and click on the "Review" tab.
  2. Under "Protect," select "Editing restrictions" to open the editing permissions menu.
  3. To restrict editing for the entire document, select the check box next to the words "Allow only this type of editing in the document."
  4. To allow editing in certain areas, keep the "Editing restrictions" menu open and use your cursor to highlight any text you want to open for editing, holding the "Ctrl" button if you want to select multiple areas.
  5. Under "Exceptions," select "More users" and type the email addresses of anyone you want to allow to edit the highlighted area, separating each email address with a semicolon.

But after enter the email adress, there is a erro "Some of the users you have entered could not be added to the list because their names could not be verified."

After finding the way to verify the mycrosoft account here , it said my microsoft account doesn't exist, same as my colleague's email.

I want to ask for support to verify all of my company's emails.

FYI, we are working and do the conversation via email offen, so there is no way the emails don't exist or not in usage.

Thanks for writing back and updating with us.

As per the further updates, the behavior you are encountering is not expected despite of using the latest version of the Word application.

In this situation, I am sorry to convey that the problem should be further investigated by the related development team, where they can collect the related logs while reproducing the problem and perform further investigation.

Note: I have checked the service health dashboard at the Microsoft end, where there is no related incident or issue reported.

So, I request you to connect with your IT admin of your organization (How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support) and raise a new service request from the Microsoft 365 admin center so that the related development team will connect with you and investigate the issue further.

    Hi Sophia,

Thank you for your email, I would like to respond you that the email address of the users you have added for allowing editing the Word document are the internal users of my organization. I have contacted to the IT admin and confirmed that the emails have no problem.

    Dear Trang Thien Truong,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

As per the description shared, I understand your concern and I would like to convey that the steps you are following in the article applies for the Microsoft Personal accounts i.e., ******@outlook.com and the error message you encountered when verifying email address is expected if you try to verify your work email address with your work/school account i.e., ******@companyname.onmicrosoft.com).

In this situation, I would like to confirm the email address of the users you have added for allowing editing the Word document are the internal users of your organization.

If yes, I would like to request you to connect with the IT admin of your organization and ask them to check the primary email address of the problematic users.

If the primary email addresses are correct but getting the error, can you please confirm whether the same problem happens with the new Word document? If yes, can you please enter only the problematic email address in the new Word document and see the outcome?

At last, please share the following information which will help us to better understand and guide you further:

    1. Screenshot of the error message encountered.
    2. Office apps Account page: Open the Word document> File> Account> Take a screenshot and share it with us.
    3. Does the problem happen with the other users in your team or organization?

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
