Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue in Excel where my cursor selects the wrong cell. For example, when I click on cell A3, it selects A1 or A2 instead. This only happens in one specific file.

Summary of the problem:

  • The cursor selects a cell two rows above the intended one.
  • The issue occurs only in one file.

What I’ve tried:

  • Restarting Excel
  • Checking for Extend Selection mode
  • Ensuring no filters or hidden rows/columns

    Dear respected  Rushabh Brahmbhatt,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I’m sorry you’re having a problem and for the situation you encountered, we deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

As per your description, firstly may I know are you using Microsoft Excel for web app? if yes, recently, we received similar issue in this community. When users use Excel for web(online) Excel keeps selecting the wrong cell and row.

I checked unfortunately currently there is no service incident. Since the issue happened to multiple users and I'm afraid this issue could be a temporarily server-side issue which needs to be investigated via remote section and collect logs and fixed from back end.

I would suggest you raise a support ticket from the Microsoft 365 admin center and report the issue to the related team. The more reports they receive from different customers, the more likely they will be able to find something affects users in common, do investigation and fix it soon.
