Sharepoint Hide/Show columns

Dear Sharepoint teams,

I have a view in a list. All members of that list have a Contribute access.

Because of that they cannot change the columns that are shown in the view.

Is there a way that they can change the columns they see only at their level ? They sometime need to extract data only with certain column shown.

I do not want to give an edit access, it would allow them to delete columns which would mean data loss.

Thanks in advance
Mike

    Hi VANDENBORNE Mike (HR),

Currently, SharePoint Online doesn’t have a built-in feature to make specific columns hidden or invisible in a view.

However, if you’re open to third-party solutions, you might want to check out the BoostSolutions Column/View Permission tool. It’s based on SPFx (SharePoint Framework) and could help you achieve what you’re looking for.

    Dear VANDENBORNE Mike (HR)

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. I am happy to help you

Currently, based on my testing and research, SharePoint online cannot customize permissions for columns.

However, if you have development resources, you could create a custom solution using SharePoint Framework (SPFx) to provide a more flexible column management experience for users with Contribute access. This might be possible with code that builds specific columns to suit your needs. Please understand that this query is outside of our support boundaries. For you to be assisted properly, please reach out to Questions - Microsoft Q&A; I am sure that our experts from that team can address your query effectively and accurately.

The reason I ask you to post a new thread is that in Answers forum, we have limited resources and very little knowledge about SharePoint Framework (SPFx) and in Questions - Microsoft Q&A, you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction.

Please accept my apologize. However, we appreciate your understanding.  I do understand the inconvenience and apologize for it.

I think you may report this behaviour to Microsoft SharePoint product developer Team (we also submit feedback from our side as well).

As Microsoft get their attention is through the feedback mechanisms and Microsoft roll out fix bug requested from Microsoft 365 customers. I recommended you may also let your valuable request to Microsoft SharePoint product developer related Team through the feedback mechanisms.
