The new solution for syncing forms responses to Excel does not update when the form is owned by a SP group

We have a form that is owned by the M365 group, when trying to update the Excel workbook, we get the below message. How can the owner update the workbook sync if this owner is a group? There is no way to transfer the form membership to a user and we don't want to re-create the form, it has hundreds of responses and is shared with a lot of users.

How can we update the excel in this case?

    Dear Rima,

    Good day! Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Community. We are here to assist you

    It seems like you're experiencing an issue with syncing Microsoft Forms responses to Excel when the form is owned by a SharePoint group.

    Technically, if you move the form to a new or existing group it give all group members full editing capabilities. And they can follow the steps mentioned in Update to the new solution for syncing forms responses to Excel.

    If you already tried the steps mentioned in above article and the issue did not resolve, the configuration of your tenant need to be checked with help of a specific team at Microsoft. Therefore, I recommend reaching out to the relevant product team for assistance.  This can only be initiated by an Office 365 Global Administrator. The Microsoft Support Team has higher permission to remotely assist you and collect background logs for the root cause. This is a more efficient way in handling this case for you.

    If you are an admin, I recommend you get support by following steps from this link: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn.  If you are not an admin, you can contact your admin to contact Microsoft support. You can look for the way to find your admin through this link: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

    Meanwhile, you can try temporary work around mentioned in Create an automated workflow for Microsoft Forms to check whether it resolve the issue.

    Please accept my apologies for redirecting you to the related team support, as the moderators in this community have limited resources and permission to verify the backend information and to get the quick and better assistance, we requested for this.

    Have a great day and take care! 😊

    Sincerely,

    Naren | Microsoft Community Moderator

    We are experiencing the same issue with 14 of 25 Forms that are in the same Group.
    I am an Owner in the Group.

    I noticed the failing call in Excel Online is:

    https://forms.office.com/formapi/api/xl/sdx/driveownercontext?shareWebUrl=LinkToTheExcelDoc

    The response is:

    {

    "error": {

        "code": "30006",

        "message": "Request is failed with status code Forbidden, error message {\"error\":{\"code\":\"accessDenied\",\"message\":\"**The sharing link no longer exists, or you do not have permission to access it.**\"}}",

        "@ms.form.error.type": "ExpectedFailure"

    }

    }

    I'm curious now if the impacted forms or Excel docs have ever had a sharing link created and then removed?

    I have tried syncing the Form results to a new Excel doc and got the same result.

    I had this exact issue earlier today, I was using an account which is an owner and member of the group that owns the form, and got the same error when I tried to update it in Excel.

    To fix it, I added a different account as a member and owner of the group and then tried again with that account, and voila, it worked straight away and updated.

    I don't know why, but it worked and thank goodness as I really don't have the time to spend weeks of back and forth with MS support to resolve it!
