Disappearing values from Visio Shape Data window

Hello,

In my company Visio users experience such an issue: when typing values into a property in Shape Data window some part of the text disappear. For instance: WORD1<space>WORD2 -> when typing WORD2 WORD1 can just vanish...

As well if there is an existing entry and the user wants to append something the existing part can disappear when writing the new part.

Visio version: Microsoft® Visio® Plan 2 MSO (Version 2408 Build 16.0.17928.20336) 64-bit.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Hi Marcin Bodziony,

Thank you so much for your further reply and cooperation.

Judging from your capture, when the cursor turns into circle, it means Visio app is trying to process your modification and save your changes. The vanishing situation you’ve encountered I’m afraid may be a background error that Visio failed to save your changes which is apparently abnormal. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience situation you’ve encountered, and I do deeply understand it.

In that case, as I mentioned in my last reply, I sincerely suggest you can contact your IT department to help your tenant to update your Visio to the latest and check whether the issue persists or not.

If the issue persists after updating to the latest version, since you mention this issue didn't happen before and this situation happens globally in a tenant level which affects to all users in your environment. I’m afraid this issue needs to be reported and investigated from back end to find the cause. The Microsoft Support Team has higher permission to remotely assist you and collect background logs for the root cause. This is a more efficient way in handling this case for you.

If you are an admin, I recommend you get support by following steps from this link: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn to raise a support ticket from admin center or calling the phone support to contact Microsoft Support: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.

If you are not an admin, you can contact your admin to contact Microsoft support. You can look for the way to find your admin through this link: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support. (usually, your IT department have the admin privilege)

Please accept my apologies for redirecting you to the related team support, as the moderators in this community have limited resources and permission to verify the backend information and to get the quick and better assistance, we requested for this.

Greatly Appreciate again for your patience and understanding, and sorry again for this inconvenience you've encountered.

Hope you also having a great day today and wish you a brilliant year ahead as well!

Sincerely,

Harry | Microsoft Community Moderator

Based on your description and judging from your situation, before you encountered the issue and capture it next time, since the Visio version you are using with is in the**Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview)**update channel: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn. I suggest you can firstly try to update your Visio version to the latest and check whether the issue persists or not.

If the issue persists after updating to the latest and you are managed to record a .gif of the issue, Please be free to post back and share me your situation. I’m willing to guide you to get further assistance about this issue any time.

    Hello,

My answers to your questions below:

    1. I think it typically happens to strings.
    2. This happens randomly to random shapes and random drawings.
    3. No. It started to happen something like 3-4 months ago. It seems to affect all users (I do COM Add-ins development and I also managed to see it on my PC, however it is not easy reproducable, just happened when editing some shape).

My typical property settings to which it happens:

I'll try to enter the values to many shapes and maybe I'll manage to record a .gif with this situation happening. If I manage to capture this, I'll post it here.

Thank you for your support! Warm regards to you too! 😊

    Marcin

    Hi Marcin Bodziony,

Greetings. Thank you for posting the thread to our community.

I understand your concern, it seems when you modify shape’s properly, the input data will get vanished. For the situation you’ve encountered, I do understand the inconvenience caused and feel very sorry about it.

In that case, to narrow down your situation and identify the root cause of your issue, May I confirm the following information with you?

    1. May I confirm which Data Type the user is set up with? Does the issue happen to all Data types or a specific Data Type?
    2. May I confirm whether the issue happens to a specific shape, or all shapes the user inserts into the drawing? And whether the issue happens to all drawings (even creating a blank new one) or a specific drawing?
    3. May I confirm whether the issue happened before? Do other users have similar issue when they set up the property of Shapes in Visio?

Meanwhile, after I do a simple test on Visio Plan 2 Version 2501 Build 18429.20104 Current Channel, I’m afraid and sorry to say I couldn’t repro the situation on my side and the Data Type I’m setting up with is String. Here is my test result as reference for you:

Please provide me related screenshots of the property settings on your side so that I can do similar test on my side to identify the situation.

Appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial reply may not resolve the situation very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. Please kindly provide the requested information so that I can work further. And Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Hope you having a nice day and warm regards to you as well. 😊

    Sincerely,

    Harry | Microsoft Community Moderator
