BlobStorage account type is not supported for backup?

I am trying to create an Operational Backup for an Azure Storage account of type BlobStorage, NOT General Purpose v2. Documentation here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/blob-backup-configure-manage

I get errors hinting that I need to upgrade my storage account to General Purpose 2.

Is GP2 required for backups?

Azure Blob Storage

@Melby, Patrick W Currently it's not supported! “Backup of Azure Blobs is currently in the works, I don't have ETA (GA) for now! You can keep a watch on Azure updates

To give you a glimpse of what the operational backup solution will offer, check out this short demo: https://aka.ms/AB-BlobBackup.
Would also urge you to fill out this survey to help us understand your requirements better and if this solution meets them.
