This Popup has been showing up on one of our users devices for the past few weeks.image (8)

After searching the forums for solutions I haven't been able to find anything.

The user can still use teams and everything will work fine. From time to time it won't send or receive messages. A similar issue is happening with the Outlook app. It can't receive new emails or send them out.

Does anyone have a solution that may help?

I've tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling, checking firewall settings, checking LAN settings and blowing away their user profile.

Thank you

Edit: OS is Windows 11 and it is the Teams app

We ran into this exact issue and it turned out NOT to be a network, cache, or Teams client problem.

    Root cause in our case:

The affected device had multiple "Work or School" accounts configured (from a different organization, their university).

This causes Windows authentication (WAM) to sometimes attempt sign-in against the wrong tenant, which results in:

    "We couldn't authenticate you"

    Why it appears intermittent:

Network changes (such as switching to Ethernet or reconnecting) can trigger a token refresh. During that refresh, Windows may re-select which account to use. If it picks the wrong one, authentication fails temporarily.

    This also explains why:

    • Teams intermittently fails to send/receive messages
    • Outlook intermittently fails to sync
    • Web apps continue working (browser uses an existing session)

    Fix:

    On the affected device:

Settings → Accounts → Access work or school

Remove any account that is NOT your primary organization.

    Restart the device.

After removing the extra account, Teams and Outlook authentication became stable and the issue stopped occurring.

    Optional verification:

Run "dsregcmd /status" and check if "WorkplaceTenantName" shows a different organization than expected.

If so, that confirms the issue.

This is easy to miss because the error message strongly suggests a network problem, but the root cause is actually a device identity conflict.

    Dear @Tyson Carmichael,

Good day! Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, kindly try these following steps:

    1. Sign Out and Reboot

    • Fully sign out of Teams and Outlook.
    • Reboot the device before signing back in. This has resolved the issue for many users

    2. Check Device Join Status

    • Run dsregcmd /status in Command Prompt. If AzureAdJoined is NO, the device may not be properly registered for enterprise authentication. Consider joining the device to Azure AD if your organization supports it.

    3. Clear Teams and Outlook Cache

You mentioned you’ve done this, but ensure it’s complete:

    4. Review Conditional Access Policies

If your organization uses Azure AD Conditional Access, ensure policies are not blocking Teams or Outlook. Misconfigured policies can cause silent failures

    5. Update Authentication Methods

    • Switch from phone call authentication to Microsoft Authenticator app or Windows Hello for Business

    6. Use Teams Web App Temporarily

While troubleshooting, use https://teams.microsoft.com which often bypasses local authentication issues.
