Dear @Markus Feneberg,

Good day! Welcome to Q&A forum!

To understand the situation better, could you confirm the following information:

  • Which version of SharePoint are you using? (e.g., SharePoint Online, SharePoint Server 2019)
  • Is the folder located in a document library or somewhere else?
  • Do you have permissions to create alerts in that library/folder?
  • Is this a one-time setup or something you’ll need to replicate across multiple folders?

Your confirmation would be very helpful!

In the meantime, kindly try the following suggestions to receive notifications whenever there are changes in a folder in SharePoint:

  • Go to your SharePoint Document Library
  • Select the specific folder you want to monitor (click the circle next to its name or right-click)
    • From the (...) options, click "Alert me"
    • User's image
  • In the 'Alert me when items change' box:
    • Give your alert a clear "Alert title"
    • Ensure the emails (your email included) in the "Send Alerts To" section are correct
    • Set "Delivery Method" to E-mail (or to SMS, it depends on how you want to be notified)
    • User's image
    • Under "Change Type", you should select "All changes" (this covers uploads)
    • Under "Send Alerts for These Changes", select "Anything changes)
    • Under "When to Send Alerts", choose "Send notification immediately" (or your preferred summary option)
    • User's image
  • Click OK

You should now receive an email whenever a file is uploaded or changed in that folder. Let me know your SharePoint version and if these steps helped!

Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!

Note that SharePoint alerts are being retired from June 2026, and new alerts will have a 30 day lifespan from October 2025. Best to stick with Julie-Hu's option and create a flow in Power Automate.
