    Dear Mei 150,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A Forum and also appreciate the response already provided by Emily. I would like to add some more information that may help resolve this issue.

Based on the error message you shared, "The credential is invalid. Unexpected sub status (6008)," this typically indicates that Outlook is unable to validate your credentials due to outdated sign-in data, cached tokens, or account security restrictions. It may also be triggered by temporary server issues or security blocks.

To help you get back into your account, please follow the steps below in order:

    Step 1: Quick Isolation

To determine if the problem is related to your browser or your account, please try the following:

    • Open a private/incognito browser window and try to sign in at https://outlook.live.com
    • If you are using a VPN or proxy service, temporarily turn it off, as these can sometimes trigger security blocks.

If you can sign in successfully in a private window or after turning off your VPN, the issue is likely local to your browser.

If it still fails, proceed with the account-level checks below.

    Step 2: Account Security Checks

Your account may be under a security hold or temporarily blocked. Please take the following actions to verify your account's security status:

    • Visit https://account.microsoft.com/security
    • Confirm your recovery email and phone number are correct.
    • Check View my sign-in activity for any suspicious sign-ins.
    • If you are prompted, reset your password immediately via https://account.live.com/password/reset. Use a strong, unique password and wait 1-2 minutes before signing in again.
    • If you recently changed security information, Microsoft may enforce a temporary security hold. Please follow any on-screen instructions to complete the verification.

Disclaimer for Browser Cleanup: Before proceeding with the steps below, please be aware that clearing browser data may sign you out of other websites and remove saved credentials. It is a good practice to back up any data you need.

    Step 3: Local Browser Cleanup

If the private window test worked, the issue is likely with your browser.

    • Sign out of all sessions at Additional security options on your Microsoft account page.
    • Clear your browser's cookies for the following sites: live.com, outlook.live.com, login.live.com, and microsoft.com.
    • Temporarily disable browser extensions (e.g., password managers, ad blockers) as they can sometimes interfere with the sign-in process.
    • Remove saved credentials from your browser's password manager.

    If the Issue Persists

If you are still unable to sign in, please reply with the following details. This will help us trace and escalate the issue for further analysis:

    • Date and time of your most recent failed sign-in attempt.
    • The exact URL where the error occurred (e.g., https://outlook.live.com).
    • Whether you tested sign-in using a private/incognito browser window, and the result.
    • Any recent changes to your account, such as password resets or updates to your security information.
    • Whether you're using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?

Once you regain access, we strongly recommend enabling two-step verification and keeping your recovery information up to date to protect your account.

Please let us know how it goes. We're here to assist you further.

    Hello

The error indicates that the account credential is wrong.

Are you logging in directly on the web? Or are you using an email app?

Is this for your personal Microsoft account or your work/school account?
