Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi @Jim Bown
Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A.
We're very sorry to hear that you've encountered a frustrating situation with Outlook, after moving emails to the new folder, they seem to have disappeared. I'm here to help.
You could follow these steps to troubleshoot it:
1.Check whether any filters have been applied to the default view settings of the Outlook folder.
For Classic Outlook
Open any folder where the email you moved to is not showing up.
Look at the left bottom of the screen, it will show Items# and Unread #. If instead of this it shows "filter applied" just click on it and then click on "Clear all".
For New Outlook:
Open any folder where the email you moved to is not showing up.
If any filters have been applied, you'll see a 'Clear Filter' option. Click on it and review the folder again.

2. Using the /cleanviews Command:
Some view settings are applied to the new folder, and these settings hide email from your sight. You can clear all view settings by closing Outlook and running the command Outlook /cleanviews in the Run window. (Windows +R> type: outlook /cleanviews)
To troubleshoot this more effectively, could you provide additional information base on the following question:
- Are you using a business or personal Outlook account?
- Which version of Outlook are you using, and on which platform?
- Is the issue you are experiencing the same when you access your email account through the Outlook Web App?
Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to configure it.
