    Hello Mike Willetts

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand that your Android version of Microsoft Defender shows "Needs Attention", and toggling Web Protection OFF and back ON instantly reverts it to OFF.

Here are some steps you can kindly follow to get this issue fixed:

    1. Check App Permissions:
      • Visit Settings > Apps > Defender > Permissions
      • Ensure both Display over other apps and Accessibility permissions are granted. There are required for Defender's protection features to function correctly on Android.
    2. Enable Battery/ Background Exemptions:
      • Go to Settings > Battery > App Launch, and ensure Defender is set to run freely in the background.
    3. Reinitiate Web Protection Properly:
      • Open the Defender app and tap Fix or Allow when prompted.
      • If Web Protection still turns off immediately, it's likely blocked from establishing necessary assistants (Like VPN or accessibility prompts).
    4. Reset Defender App
      • Navigate to Settings > Apps > Defender > Storage > Clear Cache, then Clear Data.
      • Reopen the app and follow through with all setup prompts.

Let me know if this resolves the issue, and feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance.
