    Hello @Patrick Daume

    Welcome to Q&A forum!

Thank you for providing detailed information about this issue. Based on your video, it seems like you are experiencing the problem of missing text when pressing Enter to start a new line in Word or Umlauts not being applied (e.g., ä, ö, ü) — despite using a German keyboard layout.

(As my understanding, in the German language, some letters have two dots above them — like: ä, ö, ü. These are called Umlauts. They change how the word sounds and what it means.)

However, to ensure we are aligned and to eliminate any misunderstandings that could lead to an inaccurate response, I would like to confirm a few things with you first. Please reply to this message so I can support you more effectively.

    • Are you using a personal account (e.g., @outlook.com, @hotmail.com), an educational account (e.g., @university.edu), or a business account (e.g., @yourcompany.com)?
    • Can you confirm if your issue matches what I mentioned?
    • Is the problem also happening in the Word desktop app?
    • Have you tried using a different browser to see if that makes a difference?
    • Does this occur with a specific file? You might try creating a new blank document to check if the error still appears.
    • If the issue isn’t related to what I have mentioned, could you share a few more details? I’ll do my best to find the right information for you.

While waiting for your confirmation, I also want to suggest some troubleshooting steps based on each situation to support you. Please kindly check and give me your thoughts:

If this issue is about disappearing text when pressing Enter in Word.

You can also try these quick steps to check it

    1. Refresh the page

Sometimes Word Web just needs a quick reset.

    2. Clear browser cache and cookies

Sometimes old data causes strange behavior in Word Web.

    • In Firefox:
      • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
      • Click "Clear Data"

Then restart your browser and try Word Web again

    3. Try a different browser

Open Word Web in Chrome or Edge and test if the issue still happens.

You can also update the Firefox to the newest version and check if this issue continues.

    4. Copy content to a new document

If the issue happens in one specific document:

    • Select all text (Ctrl + A)
    • Copy it (Ctrl + C)
    • Try in another web app (e.g., Excel web/Outlook Web/OneNote Web/Or even in a Google search bar)
    • Paste it (Ctrl + V) and test again to see this behavior is also in another web apps.

On the contrary, you can also type these words in another web app mentioned above and copy from these apps to your Word web document and check if the words is still disappearing.

If this issue is "Umlauts not applied (German keyboard layout)

You can make additional steps to check for:

Check your browser language and keyboard settings

Sometimes Word Web uses your browser’s settings to decide how to handle typing.

    • In Firefox, go to:
      • Settings and make sure German (German) is selected.
    • Also check your Ubuntu system keyboard layout:
      • Go to Settings of Ubuntu system and check for Language Input resourses.
      • Confirm that German (German) is selected.

Finally, please try to check this issue in another OS such as Windows or IOS to see if this issue still persists

Looking forward to hearing from you for further assistance!
