Miracast/Mirroring to TV Stick doesn't work

I want to mirror my Windows 11 PC desktop to my Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen). The Fire TV stick is connected to a HDMI input of my Samsung AU7025 55TV. Mirroring from my Oneplus Android phone to the TV stick works but mirroring from my desktop PC does not.

What I do:

On my Fire TV stick: "Display & Sounds" / "Enable Display Monitoring"

On my Windows PC: Windows + k, then select "<my name>'s Fire TV"

What happens on the TV stick:

  • "Preparing to mirror the display from your device to your Ulrich's Fire TV"
  • 40 seconds later: "Display mirroring is exiting, please wait..."

What I already tried:

  1. update TV stick:
  2. update relevant drivers on my PC
  3. factory reset of the Fire TV stick
  4. disable Windows firewall for a couple of minutes
  5. Change bands to both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ

Any help is highly appreciated.

    Hi Ricardo Real,

I'm Hendrix, here to help with your query on the Microsoft Q&A forums. Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing.

I understand you’re trying to mirror your Windows 11 PC to your Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen), but the connection fails after “Preparing to mirror…” and then exits. You’ve already tried several steps, great troubleshooting so far!

Here are some insights and solutions that often resolve this issue:

Fire TV uses Miracast, which depends on your PC’s Wi-Fi and graphics drivers. If either is outdated or incompatible, the connection can fail. Amazon’s screen mirroring feature isn’t fully optimized for Windows PCs, so results can vary by device and driver versions.

Please do this quick check to confirm Miracast support:

    1. Open Command Prompt and run: netsh wlan show driver
    2. Look for:
    • Wireless Display Supported: Yes (Graphics Driver: Yes, Wi-Fi Driver: Yes)
    • If either says “No,” your PC can’t use Miracast without updates.

Please try these recommended steps that often resolve the issue:

    1. Reinstall Wireless Display feature
    • Go to Settings → Apps → Optional features
    • Search for Wireless Display, uninstall it, then reinstall. Restart your PC.
    1. Update or roll back drivers
    • Update your Wi-Fi and graphics drivers from your PC manufacturer’s site.
    • If the issue started after a Windows update, try rolling back to a previous driver version.

An alternative option that you can try

If Miracast remains unstable, try the AirScreen app on Fire TV. It supports multiple casting protocols (DLNA, AirPlay, Google Cast) and is often more reliable than native mirroring.

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Please keep me informed.
