Feature Request: Default Filter View Option in Shared Excel Files

Dear Microsoft Excel Team,

I’m writing to suggest an enhancement to the user experience when working with shared Excel files. Currently, whenever I apply a filter in a shared workbook, I’m prompted to choose between “See mine” or “See others.” While I understand this is part of the Sheet View feature designed to prevent conflicts, the repeated prompt can be disruptive—especially when working with the same file regularly.

Feature Request: Please consider adding an option to set a default filter view preference (e.g., “Always use my view” or “Always see others’ view”) that persists across sessions. This would streamline the workflow and reduce unnecessary interruptions for users who consistently choose the same option.

Thank you for your continued efforts to improve Excel. I believe this small change could make a big difference for many users working in collaborative environments.

Best regards, Edward Jiang

    Hello @Jiang, Edward (E.),

Good day! Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand your inconvenience when Excel does not offer a built-in option to set a persistent default filter view preference (like “Always use my view” or “Always see others’ view”) when working with shared workbooks. However, you can use these suggestions a workaround options for your situation:

    • Create and name your own Sheet View (e.g., “My View”) and select it each time you open the workbook.

    • Use OneDrive or SharePoint to store the workbook, as Sheet View only works in cloud-stored files.
    • Encourage collaborators to use Sheet Views to avoid conflicts and reduce the need for repeated prompts.
