How to setup a "New Email Alert display/pou-up"?

Hi there,

I have been using outlook rules for several years. While we could create a pop-up/display alert for new emails, this functionality has worked well in the old outlook, I am not able to set a new rule with the new outlook. This feature has really helped previously in creating alerts for specific emails and an absence of this basic feature is quite an inconvenience with the new outlook.

Greatly appreciate a guide on how to set this up in the new outlook.

Best, Harshal

    Hello @Harshal D,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum!

As you know in the New Outlook for Windows, while the general desktop notification feature still exists, the "Display a Desktop Alert" action is currently not available in the Rules interface for targeting specific emails.

However, I did some research and found some good news: Microsoft has reintroduced the “Display a Desktop Alert” rule action in the New Outlook for Windows, with general availability starting in September 2025 (Roadmap ID 496142).

However, when I tested it in my own environment, I noticed that the feature is still not available.

In many cases, even though a feature is marked as GA, Microsoft may roll it out gradually across tenants, so not all organizations receive it at the same time. Therefore, this feature might still be in the process of being gradually rolled out across tenants.

I highly recommend submitting feedback through the Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub:

    • Go to Help => Feedback => Send Feedback
    • Describe your suggestion in detail.

This allows the development team to understand the needs of real users. Not only New Outlook, but also all Microsoft apps are continuously improved to better serve users like you. Your feedback may help us revive or introduce features that make a real difference.

Every submission is reviewed, and many product enhancements have come directly from user input. I’ll also submit feedback myself, as it’s clear that many users are experiencing the same issue.

I truly appreciate you're understanding and patience as Microsoft continues to evolve the platform.

Additionally, since this feature may involve backend configurations, if you're using a work account, I recommend asking your IT admin to raise a support ticket with Microsoft.

This will allow the higher-level technical support team to check your tenant specifically and provide more detailed information.

You're not the only one waiting; I’m also looking forward to seeing this feature fully rolled out to all users.

So, let’s stay patient and look forward to this feature being available in the near future!
