Mouse scrolling further than settings after Windows 11 upgrade

I have just made the upgrade to Windows 11 and noticed the mouse wheel scrolling is going further than before. I visited the settings, changed it to just scroll 1 line, then did the same through the registry editor, but it's still scrolling too far when using the wheel. It says the driver for the mouse is up to date. The mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000. I have upgrade to Windows 11 on a different machine with no such problem (though using a wired mouse via a docking station for that at work). How can I solve this?

If your mouse scrolling is still going further than expected after adjusting the settings and registry, you might consider the following steps:

    1. Check Mouse Settings: Ensure that the settings in the Windows mouse settings are correctly configured. Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse and confirm that the scroll lines are set to your preference.
    2. Update Mouse Drivers: Even if it says the driver is up to date, sometimes reinstalling the driver can help. You can do this by:
      • Going to Device Manager.
      • Finding your mouse under Mice and other pointing devices.
      • Right-clicking on it and selecting Uninstall device. Then restart your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
    3. Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, additional updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
    4. Test on Another Computer: Since you mentioned that the mouse works fine on another machine, testing it again can help confirm if the issue is specific to your current setup.
    5. Try a Different USB Port: If you're using a wireless mouse, try connecting the receiver to a different USB port.
    6. Check Mouse Software: If you have any specific software for your mouse (like Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center), ensure it is updated and configured correctly.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

Hi Owen, Thanks for posting here in the Microsoft Community. It sounds like your mouse is over-scrolling even after tweaking settings and registry. Since it works fine on another PC, it’s likely a driver or USB port issue. Try reinstalling the mouse driver via Device Manager and switching USB ports. Also, check if any mouse software (like Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center) is installed and updated.

What you can try, Uninstall the mouse driver, reboot, and let Windows reinstall it. Also, try plugging the receiver into a different USB port.

Also, are you using any third-party mouse software or custom drivers that might be overriding Windows settings?

I hope this helps you out, let me know how it goes.
