Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Hello @Samantha R,
Good day! Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.
Currently, Copilot in Microsoft Teams is designed to work within the boundaries of your organization. This means that while internal users can benefit from features like meeting summaries, action items, and intelligent note-taking, these capabilities are not available to standard external or federated users joining from outside your tenant.
For your reference: Use Copilot in Microsoft Teams meetings - Microsoft Support
However, Microsoft has introduced a solution for multitenant organizations (MTOs) that allows B2B users - those who are part of a trusted partner organization and have been added via Microsoft Entra ID - to access Copilot features in Teams meetings. This is known as B2B Copilot access.
For more information about B2B collaboration, see B2B guest user properties - Microsoft Entra External ID | Microsoft Learn.
To enable B2B Copilot access, the following conditions must be met:
- Multitenant Organization Setup: Both your organization and the partner organization must be configured as part of a multitenant organization using Microsoft Entra External ID. That means B2B Copilot access isn't available to external or federated users.
- Cross-Tenant Access Configuration: Admins must configure cross-tenant access policies to allow collaboration between the two tenants. For more information about cross-tenant access settings, see Overview: Cross-tenant access with Microsoft Entra External ID.
- Copilot Licensing: The B2B user must have a valid Microsoft 365 Copilot license in their home tenant.
- You can manage B2B member access to Copilot in the Teams admin center
- Sign in to the Teams admin center using your admin credentials.
- Expand Users from the left-side navigation pane.
- Under Users, select B2B member access.
- Either select an existing policy or create a new one.
- Toggle the Allow Copilot for B2B members setting On or Off.
- Select the Save button.
- Alternatively, The Allow Copilot for B2B members setting can also be managed using PowerShell with the Get-CsTeamsMultiTenantOrganizationConfiguration and Set-CsTeamsMultiTenantOrganizationConfiguration cmdlets. To learn how to manage Teams settings using PowerShell, see Manage Teams with Microsoft Teams PowerShell.
For your reference, please check: Manage Copilot access for B2B members within multitenant organizations (MTO) in Teams
Note:
- This setup is distinct from regular guest access and is intended for deeper collaboration scenarios between trusted organizations.
- These steps must be perform by the Microsoft 365 administrators of both tenant, if you're an end-users and not sure where to find them, please find guidance at: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support
